My First Year Journey as an Internet Marketer
Can’t believe that it’s been exactly a year since I started to get serious with Internet marketing. Just like they said, time really flies when you’re having so much fun. Why July 20th? It’s because this is the day when I finally bit the bullet and joined the Wealthy Affiliate University.
I actually started on June 2009 but that doesn’t count because I quit after not having any sales! hahaha! Looking back at it, I actually came close to living a life that I did not want. The life where you slave yourself for someone else and not being able to do what you really love to do.
My biggest accomplishment so far is being able to start my own Internet marketing business. My average monthly income for the past 12 months are not yet earth shattering but I’m really happy with how things are progressing. Remember that this is a business and not a job where you have a set monthly income.
You can definitely earn any amount of monthly income in this business and this is one of the biggest reasons why I don’t need to go to the Middle East or to U.S. or Canada. What’s even exciting about having an Internet marketing business is that you can generate passive income. Basically, passive income is an income you earn on a regular basis with little effort required to maintain it.
But the most satisfying feeling about having an online business is not even about the money… it’s about the lifestyle! It’s about being in total control of your time. It’s about being your own boss. It’s about getting a good night sleep every single time. It’s the feeling that you’re really creating a bright future. It’s about finally leaving the rat race. It’s about helping people solve their problems and feed their desires, and so on and so forth.
Now before I get carried away let me share with you some important tips that can help you get started:
Important Tips for Surviving in the Internet Marketing Business
Get the best Internet marketing education – You can actually be successful in this business even if you don’t buy any courses but your progress will definitely be slower. My knowledge drastically improved when I joined the Wealthy Affiliate University and my skills got sharper because I took action and applied what I’ve learned inside WA.
Start taking action – I believe taking action and applying what you’ve learned is the key to moving forward in this business. It helps to learn the basics first but start taking action as soon as you already have a plan of attack and don’t wait for everything to be perfect. Don’t be one of those people who have been reading about IM for years and never took any action.
Stick to your game plan – There are so many ways to start making money online and if you’re just starting out then you basically have 2 options. Either you take the free route which is article marketing or take the paid route which is pay-per-click.
For example, if you buy an article marketing course then put in some really serious effort on mastering it until you’re making consistent income. Don’t get blinded by the shiny products that come out everyday because you’ll only get distracted and you’ll get nothing accomplished.
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes – Embrace your mistakes and learn from them because it will move you closer to your goal.
Don’t quit – Like I’ve shared above, I quit when I started and that was my first biggest mistake. In this business you’ve got to have a take no prisoners attitude. I believe this inspirational story from Carson (one of the owners of WA) sums it all up on why you should not quit.
What Are you Doing Tomorrow?
I can remember when I started out – it’s as clear as day. My budget was $5 a day and I remember when I spent nearly double that in the first week or so with no sales. I was seriously dipping into my credit card at that point because I didn’t have a lot of extra cash due of the fact I was in school with no job.
What got me through was the fact that I would imagine myself 2, 3, 6 months down the road. I used to tell myself. “I can do two things, quit, or continue pushing on. In 3 months, maybe I’ll have a campaign that makes me $20 profit a day, in 6 months maybe I’ll have 2 campaigns that make me $50 profit a day. If I give up now I won’t ever know if this is possible”.
3.5 years later. I have multiple campaigns and a network of websites that make me and Kyle huge amounts of money each day and I’ve made $50,000 or more on multiple occasions in a single day.
In life in general I always think of the future in small increments and set little goals for myself to put things into perspective. Sure, you may not be making profits now, but if you give up you have ZERO chance of being in a better place down the road. Time flies, and I always like to think of what I “Could” be achieving in the near future. Internet Marketing is something that I love to do and regardless of the amount of money I’m making I always have a goal of doing this for the long run.

I like it! I started out ordering the Anthony Morrison book on profits from home. I was completely baffled by a lot of the stuff, but I was REALLY interested. I researched on the internet and joined freesitesignup. I ordered some books from Amazon and I learned a lot, but like you, I am finally getting to the point where I need to bust out on my own. However, I NEVER could have done it without all thoses steps. I think this is especially important for people like me with little or no knowledge of how all this stuff works. NE
