My First Amazon Check Just Arrived!

04 May 2011 ~ 43 Comments

I’d like to tell you a really cool story on receiving my first Amazon check. It was late last night and I slept around 4AM but I managed to be awake at around 9AM so I only got 5 hours of sleep (normally, I would get 8-10 hours of deep sleep if the neighbors aren’t too noisy. hehehe). When I got up, I looked over my window and at that moment saw the mailman who brings in my Clickbank checks pedaling his bike.

Can you see the awesome timing here? I wonder who woke me up. ;)

Actually that’s the cool part of the story. hehehe. Let’s continue…

I remembered that we just got someone new to help around the house. And I knew that she wouldn’t have any idea of what to do when these checks arrive and so I rushed out to get the checks personally. It was a good decision because Noel (the mailman) was about to leave! It turned out that the ‘help’ told the mailman that I wasn’t around! I didn’t know what she said exactly but it was something like that. hahaha

I was expecting a Clickbank check but I noticed that the envelope was a little bigger. After signing the mailman’s log (reward your mailman by giving him some tip. hehehe), it was then that I discovered that it was my first ever check from Amazon.com. The check’s date was on April 22 but I actually got the email from Amazon about my check just last week. What I’m saying is that they process and bring you the checks really fast! hahaha

I’d like to document some of the events of my Internet marketing journey so I took some snapshots of my 1st Amazon check.

I think I could be a good hand model, doncha think? hahaha

I’m Just Getting Started Folks!

To this day, it still amazes me that you can really earn a nice income on the Internet. Every single day I’m very grateful for the freedom that I’m experiencing and I get to do things that I would normally pass on because I didn’t have enough time or money.

I have complete and total control of how I want to design my life and the possibilities are just endless!

This is just a small portion of my online income as Clickbank is still the biggest earner for me. This Amazon check is only over a couple of hundred dollars but eventually this will grow to the point that it will be my biggest earner because I can see the huge potential for promoting physical products in Amazon and different affiliate programs.

Wow! congratulations on your first Amazon check. I also got inspired from your work as an Amazon affiliate. That is why I decided to follow your footstep to do the same. I’m also looking forward to my first check. Keep up the good work and your excellent blog….helps me a lot!

    Hi Raymond,

That is fantastic, I have just started affiliate marketing, and this is very encouraging to see.

In fact, having just checked my own Amazon Associates account, I have just spotted that I have earned a commission of $0.10. This was on a small and inexpensive ‘test’ product that I put online, so I guess it really will work.

Ha ha, obviously my amount is no where near what you have received, but at least it is a start. Things can only get better….

Thank you for your positive emails and encouragement – we really appreciate the effort you put in to help the rest of us out.

Congratulations Mrs S! First sale is always a time to celebrate no matter what the amount is. We all have to start somewhere and what’s important is persistence.

Looking forward to having a gr8 association with you.

That’s great Raymond this blog is a real inspiration if and when you decide to take a vacation you should visit my country Jamaica it’s is really nice and warm with lots of beaches.

Well back to work for me until my IM starts making enough, I can’t wait to quit this job and go full time into IM.

    Awesome job, Ray.

I’ve started looking into this and it’s ubdoubtedly, your proves above validate the means of Internet Venture. If you remember, we had previously exchanging email messages and it’s been a short while ago.

To-date I’ve taken a less expensive approach to learning the skills to get there as my bank account is limiting me to what I can do.

One day, I will get there, and any advice is welcome as I will be constantly learning.

    Awesome, awesome showing.

    Hi Raymond,

I’ve been following your blog for sometime now and seeing you succeed motivates me even more. This shows that people are making money online and i want to be a part of it! Congrats!

  9. Dave 5 May 2011 at 4:28 am Permalink

Congratulations Ray. I’m really pleased for you. Anyway, how’s this for a coincidence? I received my first Clickbank cheque today for $380.59
It’s not all good news though, as the site that is maainly responsible for the income has disappeared from Google. This after being on page 1 in 1st place for over a month!
Seeing the dramatic effect on my hop counts as a result shows that relying solely on Google positioning can be a frustrating game and I am now in the position of trying to build up backlinks etc to hopefully make Google fall in love with the site again.
Anyway, enough of my tails of woe. I’m genuinely pleased for you and hope you go from strength to strength

    • Raymond Selda 5 May 2011 at 11:45 am Permalink

Congratulations on your first CB check Dave! That’s really an awesome amount for a first check. That’s right, just continue drip feeding some backlinks to your web page. You can also publish a new blog post with an internal link pointing to the page you want to rank using your keywords as anchor text. Keep me posted.

      Hi Dave
The other thing you could do is diversify. Don’t rely on just one website. Then if you get dropped by Google on one of your websites, hopefully you still have good google rankings (and traffic) from otehr websites.
      Richard

        Thanks Richard,
That’s exactly what I am doing. I’m in the process of getting a website developed for EBay approval so I can start promoting there.

    Hi Raymond..

Congrats for your first check.I also read couple of other posts on this blog. In your bio, you mentioned that “I was averaging over $30 per day back in December 2010 and my online income has been steadily rising since then”. This is very cool, i m sure you must be at $100/day level by now.

I have 1 question, i am assuming that u r managing lot of website, so can you give some tips on how to manage multiple sites at a same time?

    • Raymond Selda 6 May 2011 at 12:00 am Permalink

When you’re starting out, I would advice that you should focus on one campaign first until it’s making you a steady income as you don’t want to spread yourself too thin.

  11. Richard 8 May 2011 at 4:50 am Permalink

    Hi Ray
Congratulations on your first check – and not a small one either!
I can’t beleive that you average 8 to 10 hours sleep a night. I average 3 to 5. That is the only way I can fit my IM around my normal work, but I look at it as short term pain for long term gain.
    Richard

    • Raymond Selda 8 May 2011 at 3:39 pm Permalink

Exactly Richard! You’re putting some time aside for your online business and that’s really important. 1-2 hours of consistent work for 1-2 years (heck even 5 years) can give you the freedom that will last for a LIFETIME! Thinking long term and focusing are some qualities that most people don’t work on when they get into IM.

Hi Raymond. Congratulations on your success and thanks for the inspiration. May I know how long would it usually take for Amazon and Clickbank checks to be delivered to your doorstep?

    • Raymond Selda 3 June 2011 at 10:19 pm Permalink

Clickbank checks get delivered after 2 weeks and my Amazon check got here only after a week. Sometimes there will be some delays (the longest for me was probably 8 weeks and it was a CB check. hahaha) but your checks will all arrive.

      • Abel 5 June 2011 at 8:45 pm Permalink

Thanks for the reply. If I may ask another question, which local bank clears Amazon/CB checks the fastest? How many days?

  20. Val 29 May 2011 at 12:13 pm Permalink

Congrats Raymond! Pinoy din po ako and I am currently earning through Amazon din, although hinda pa umabot sa threshold, hehe. Just want to ask if regular mail ba ang nag de-deliver nga checks? If yes, is it safe? Kasi I’ve heard before that our local post office does not deliver some checks. Pero I’m hoping it’s safe because I want to focus on earning through Amazon.

More power to you! :) Thanks!

    • Raymond Selda 3 June 2011 at 10:05 pm Permalink

Most of the time, I regularly get my checks. There are some that are delayed but eventually the checks will arrive here. Just don’t worry about the negative stuff because you’ll attract it whether you like it or not.

    Hey Ray,

Congrats on your 1st Amazon check.
I have a question. I’ve heard that Amazon will keep 30% of your payout for tax. Is it true? The amount of your 1st check is for what month’s earnings.

    Tks,
    Lam

    Hi Ray,
I have been reading your blogs and its very informative. I signed with a company to be an affiliate with Amazon. They built the web site and now I can’t get a hold of them. It looks like they disappeared or they are just avoiding my calls and emails. I would like to hook up with Amazon but don’t know how to do that. I think the term is monetize the site with Amazon. I really wonder if I can do that. The web site has the products from Amazon I believe. It looks good but I can’t make if function. If I can then Amazon should pay me for sending business there way. Isn’t that how affiliate programs work ? Being a newby and losing close to $20,000 over the past 5 years, it would be nice to make some money right now.
I’ll give you the web site address and see what you think……….
    rayshotdiscounts.com
I don’t think any one knows that it exists because I don’t know how to advertise it properly and as cost effective as possible.
If you could help me, I would greatly appreciate the assistance.
    Thanks Ray

    • Dave 2 July 2011 at 7:31 pm Permalink

      Hello Ray,
If you do a search for “Amazon Associates” that will show you how to join the affiliate program.
There was a product released recently called Amazon Treasure Chest that goes right from the initial keyword search to finishing off the website for potential customers. It’s a thorough look at marketing Amazon products. I bought it when it first came out a couple of weeks ago, so don’t know what the price is now. I won’t post an affiliate link for it as I think that would be somewhat inappropriate and disrespectful to our host. I’ll just suggest doing a google and decide what you want to do from there.
I’d also suggest that it would be a good idea to read up on keyword research and getting the right domain name if your intention is to make money online. All marketers seek the holy grail of keyword thsat has loads of searches but little competition. There’s plenty of information out there and you’d be surprised how quick you learn. 6 months ago I didn’t even know whaat affiliate marketing was let alone how to do it.
      Hope this helps
      Dave

    Hello Ray,
I presume you’ve heard what’s happened to all the Amazon affiliates based in California? Amazon has now stopped them from becoming affiliates anymore because of the change in tax laws over there. This is nor the first state to be affected and I doubt it will be the last. Just proves, when it comes to marketing you have to diversify. I was wondering how many different areas you market in nowadays?
    regards
    Dave

Amazon checks usually arrive on time (1st week of every month). Try to email the affiliate program to follow up about your check.

I’m glad I found your site I’ve been looking for a post like this because I am about to received my first check, I’m so excited but worried regarding our postal office. Just wondering if Amazon deducts $15 from your earning for the processing fee in sending the check outside the US?

    • Raymond Selda 26 September 2011 at 10:11 am Permalink

I think Amazon doesn’t charge any processing fees when sending checks outside U.S. I’ve read it somewhere in the affiliate payments page.
