Internet Marketing Class – Are You Just Spinning Your Wheels?
You can actually learn all of this Internet marketing stuff on your own and with free resources but the question still remains: How long do you think is it going to take you?
Recently, I received an email from a marketer who told me about his campaign. He said that he had one sale to his name and was asking if it justifies all of the effort that he invested in it. So I checked out his campaign (he’s using article marketing) and discovered that he has written 80 articles for almost a year now! I was surprised because I thought he only had 20-30 articles written. Based from what I’ve learned at Wealthy Affiliate’s Internet marketing class (check out my full Wealthy Affiliate review), you don’t get to write 80 articles for a year and only have one sale.
Obviously there was something missing from his campaign so I decided to look deeper and discovered the things that needs improvement:
Keywords – Keyword research is no doubt the most important part for any online business. I can’t stress how important it is to do a proper keyword research. You don’t want to start your campaign without knowing which keywords and phrases you are going to target. In article marketing, you want your articles to come up in search engines for terms that are relevant to your business. You need keywords that has a decent amount of monthly searches and has little competition.
Then after you have your golden keywords, you need to put them in your articles especially in your title, headings and content. Don’t go overboard in stuffing keywords in your articles. (General rule of thumb is to place your keywords once every 300 words). Always write content for people because they are the ones who are reading and not search engines.
Resource Box – I have no problem with his content because it’s well written but his resource box needs a serious make-over. I see so many signatures written that only boost the author’s ego. You have to provide a very good reason why people should click and visit your website. Answer the question: “What’s in it for them?”. One powerful way is to ask a question, make them curious and tell them that the answer lies on the other side. Readers need a good enough incentive to click through your link.
Also don’t forget about the links that will point back to your website. Most article directories will allow 2 links in your resource box. One link is for the keyword that you’re trying to rank for and the other is going to be the full URL to your website. Remember to have some keyword variations in your anchor text. Hundreds of links pointing to your website with the same anchor text is not going to look good in the eyes of the search engines (read Google).
So I emailed him back with these suggestions and I’m glad to hear that he’s pumped up to start improving his campaign. This is not a rare case. There are many beginners who are working so hard and 97% of them will never really make it because this industry makes it so hard to find and focus on the right information.
