GDI Scam – Is GDI a Scam or Not?

When you search for “gdi scam” in Google, how would you know if you can trust the web pages in the first page of the search results?

Usually when you search for a product or a service and append the word scam to it, you’re hoping to read if they’ve been involved in a scam or if there’s any negative press about them.

But what happens most of the time, is that affiliates will also use it (the word ‘scam’) to their advantage. In this case, GDI affiliates would use the keywords “gdi scam” in the domain names, headlines, etc. but after you’ve been sucked in you’ll realize that they are really promoting it.

What The Heck is Global Domains International (GDI)?

Basically, GDI is a combination of Multi-level marketing (MLM or pyramid scheme) and affiliate marketing. They provide domain names, email forwarding, site builder and hosting.

How Does GDI Works?

If you decide to sign up, you’ll have to pay $10 every month for their .ws domain name and other web services. You’ll also have the ability to be an affiliate for them where you can refer people to join GDI.

When you become a paid member, you’ll be given some marketing materials that will help you with your promotions. You earn a commission of $1 for every direct member that you refer. They have this bonus program where they pay you $100 if you can refer 5 members within a single week. You’ll get a residual income of $1 every month if your referral stays as a member and you can also make money on your customer’s referrals (pyramid model).

Is GDI a Scam or Not?

I’ve read some complaints from members who said that their credit cards were still charged even if they already canceled their membership. And when you try to cancel, many people claimed that the process was really hard because they make you jump through many hoops. There were also some complaints that the domains were too expensive and the service wasn’t really that satisfactory compared to other established web companies. GDI provides multiple tiered levels but you’ll have to pay to access this feature.

My Initial Thoughts About GDI

My first question is why should you buy a .ws domain name extension? If you have keyword research basics, you can still find a lot of .com, .org and .net domain names that are available.

Currently, I have no plans of trying MLM (even in my next life). It’s just not in my personality to push and sell products that people don’t really need. This is just one aspect of MLM that I don’t really like.
