Changed My Business Model After 8 Months of Affiliate Marketing

18 March 2010 ~ 3 Comments

During my first 4 months (July-Nov 2009) with affiliate marketing, my main business model revolved around direct linking from articles to the merchant page. I would buy a cheap .info domain name and forward that with my affiliate link. I then realized that this wasn’t really a long term business model because all I was doing was building articles for the merchant. I should be building my own assets!

So I decided to start building my own websites and now use all of my articles to give some traffic and backlinks to my own pages. I would start out by choosing keyword rich domain names so I can easily get them ranking in first page. After that I’ll just point articles back to the homepage and inside pages and hopefully after 2-4 weeks my money pages will climb up the rankings. I had setup many sites but only one campaign is making me an average of $200-$300 per month which is enough for now to survive.

I was working on another campaign of mine and I asked a fellow Wealthy Affiliate member on how could I improve my promotions because he was the merchant of the product that I’m promoting. He gave me some awesome tips but he also showed me his site and how he’s raking in some serious dough with it! At that moment, I realized that I’ve been leaving lots of money on the table! What was he doing? He was building a list!

I’m already familiar with list building and email marketing before I even joined Wealthy Affiliate but I’ve been ignoring this business model for quite a while. Now things are about to change and I’m ready to start from scratch.

Right now I’ve teamed up with my significant other to help me write some articles. The plan is to write 4 articles (2 each) per day in 10 days. Right now we already have 25 live articles and 7 pending. It’s already been a week since our first signup and right now we have 24 subscribers in our list. I’m happy with the progress and overall I’m just excited about list building and email marketing.

Now if you’re really serious on building an Internet marketing business, you should definitely work on building your mailing list because just like the gurus are saying… the money is in the list!

Raymond, I think that is a great plan. I also changed recently from spending my efforts building other peoples list and now am focusing my efforts on building my own lists. I like the teamwork you have going on creating articles. Please keep us updated on how this turns out.

      Hi Eric,

It’s great that you’ve focused on your own stuff. As of now our list building and email marketing efforts is not producing the results we want but everything’s fine. I’m sure everything will pick up one way or another. Thanks for dropping by Eric.
